South Pittsburg Eye Doctor
Dr. Alyssa Spalding
Dr. Alyssa Spalding grew up moving around with her family as the eldest daughter of a career military father and homemaker mother. Ending up in a small, northern Michigan town during middle and high-school, she earned a full-ride, scholastic scholarship upon graduation to Central Michigan University. After 3 years of changing fields of study and interests, she returned home for her annual eye exam where her long-time optometrist finally convinced her to shadow him during spring break. It was then that she realized what she wanted to be. She returned to school and declared a major in biomedical sciences and a minor in chemistry and began preparing for optometry school.
After being accepted to 4 different optometry schools, she decided to stay close to family and after graduating with her Bachelors of Science degree, began her studies at Ferris State University's Michigan College of Optometry. There she participated in student council, was a student member of COVD, AOSA, MOSA and worked weekends as a server. She completed 2 years of internships at The University Eye Center seeing routine, pediatric, vision therapy, disease, low vision and contact lens exams. Her year of externships included another semester at The University Eye Center, a semester at The Duane Waters Hospital in the Jackson State Prison and the Grand Rapids VA Outpatient Clinic. She graduated with her Doctorate of Optometry in May of 2014.
She moved to Chattanooga, TN with her husband and 2 Australian Shepherds and spends her time reading and enjoying all the activities that the city and surrounding area offers.
